In these times of change, the task of renewing our souls is not just for our own benefit
but for the benefit of all beings. As each of us rests in the center of our beings,
a place of peace and celebration, the whole world changes.

To create well-being, we will meditate, chant, and practice yoga and gentle movement.
We will kayak on the bay, eat nourishing meals, sleep under the stars,
and experience the true solace that nature inspires.

Trip Description & Logistics

Tomales Bay is one of the most stunning kayaking destinations on the west coast. Paddling along its granite cliffs and forested hills, we'll enjoy two nights of camping on one of the bay's secluded beaches, which are accessible only by water. Tomales Bay has a number of these remote beaches where camping is permitted and which are located within a short paddle from the Blue Waters launch site in Marshall, CA, 15 minutes north of Pt Reyes Station, along Highway One.

Friday ~ We will meet in Marshall at 10:30am, and prepare for launch (see info below about closed vs open-deck kayaks, and special class offered by Blue Waters Kayaking).

After preparations are complete, we will have lunch (byo bag lunch), then paddle across to our beach, where our campsite and personal gear await us, having by then been shuttled across by motorboat. We will take our time settling in, dance and enjoy getting to know each other before sharing a scrumptious dinner, followed by evening facilitation around the fire with Nina and Davida.

Saturday ~ After breakfast, guides from Blue Waters Kayaking will paddle over to lead us on a 3-hour bay tour. Enjoy lunch back at camp, then the afternoon will unfold (more paddling, relaxing, hiking, reading, dancing, etc.) ... Dinner and evening activities will follow.

Sunday ~ Start the day with meditation and yoga, a delicious breakfast, and a short paddle. After lunch, we'll break down our camp, and paddle back to Marshall. At this time, participants might wish to visit a nearby beach, do some local shopping, or further explore the coast along Highway One.

Sea Kayaks and Instruction

Blue Waters Kayaking has a large assortment of single and double sea kayaks, with both closed and open decks. Participants will be provided with all necessary equipment, such as spray skirts, paddles, life vests, pumps and paddle floats.

To use closed-deck (sit-inside) sea kayaks, one person in the boat must have completed a Sea Kayaking Basic Skills class (SKB) or equivalent, including capsize recovery and re-entry techniques.

Trip participants without closed-deck training will use single or double open-deck, sit-on-top kayaks. It is mandatory to wear wetsuits in open-deck kayaks, and they are provided free of charge to those who need them. (Please note that total weight limit for sit-on-top kayaks is 350 lbs.)

Blue Waters will also provide motorboat support on this trip for group and personal gear that will not fit into the two hatches built into each kayak.

Capsize-and-Recovery Training for Closed-Deck Sea Kayaks

To encourage use of closed-deck kayaks, Blue Waters is extending a special offer on their Sea Kayaking Basics (SKB) class to participants on this trip. Successful completion of this class certifies you to rent single OR double closed-deck kayaks from Blue Waters or any other sea kayaking company in the future. On this trip, at least one person in each closed-deck kayak is required to have this certification.

Special offer: $59, regularly $109.
This 4-hour class takes place on Friday (July 16th) from 8:30am-12:30pm. At the end of class, participants will join the rest of the group. You could also choose to take the full-day class prior to the weekend of the event (see Blue Waters' calendar for a Saturday or Sunday class that works for you).

Principles of Leave No Trace

* Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
* Dispose of Waste Properly
* Leave What You Find
* Minimize Campfire Impacts
