"The evening I spent listening to the river, soaking in the beautiful crescent moon and planets in the ‘v’ of the canyon, was one of the most peaceful evenings of my life. And I got to experience this within an incredibly creative, fun, and safe group container. I wanted to do ‘nothing’ and did exactly that, shedding tons of overwhelm and overload in the process.  The sense of relief stayed with me long after my return. I am so grateful for the way you organized the camp and our trip together, and happy that I joined you on this journey." — Genie Ohashi, Novato

"Gail brings together heart connections and community on the leading edge of cultural change. A tenderness comes alive along the river as we accept that we don't have all the answers, but in collaboration, we can find the courage to...act on potential solutions." — Sheryl Sever, Oakland, Leading Visions to Action

Mindful Yoga and NVC ~ with Priya Rackoff
Village Drum Circle ~ with Renee Benmeleh
.... plus optional rafting day trips on a beautiful Class III river ~ with delicious meals included!

A note from Gail, the RiverGuidess:

In late February of this year, upon returning from 3 months of travel in New Zealand and Costa Rica, I was moved to train as a facilitator of the Symposium called "Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream," an educational outreach curriculum designed by the Pachamama Alliance. I dedicate this year's trip to the spirit of the Symposium, by inviting ATD facilitators, along with their friends and families, and all who feel aligned with its mission to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence on Planet Earth. For more, visit awakeningthedreamer.org

In addition to relaxation, rejuvenation ... and rafting (optional), the weekend portion of this trip will include facilitation in Joanna Macy's "Work that Reconnects." What better place to do this piece of work than in the heart of Mother Earth! The Hopi elders' have said it's time to "let go of the shore, push off into the river, get our feet up, look around to see who's there with us ... and celebrate!" And together we will do just that!

On Sunday afternoon, those who remain will open the circle to new arrivals from the nearby NCDC Dance Camp, who will join our community through Tuesday. Rafting day-trip options are available on both Saturday and Monday. I strongly suggest staying for the whole experience. Once you arrive in Paradise, you won't want to leave ...

In flow,
Gail ~the RiverGuidess~

P.S. Pre-registration is required for this trip and is limited to 45 participants. It's likely to fill fast, so register asap if you want to come!

Kick off your summer with Consicous Community in this wilderness paradise, just 90 minutes east of — yet worlds away from — Fresno, California, in the western foothills of the southern Sierras. Singles, couples, families ... rafters & non-rafters all welcome. This basecamp "rafting-optional" river experience is an adventure in community and creative expression, self-renewal and transformation!

For up to 5 days & 4 nights, we'll live in harmony along the river's edge. Just know that once you settle in, you'll not want to leave. So clear your decks and take the plunge for the full stay!

Spend quality time with friends old and new, as well as several exceptional faciliitators, artists, musicians and healers (listed below). Immersed in the energy of the river — and through their offerings — we'll soar to new heights and depths of connection with ourselves, each other, and Mother Earth! Enjoy secluded and spacious riverside camping beneath a crystal clear, star-filled sky (sleep in your tent or out on a tarp for stargazing), and warm summer nights around the fire with our creative, spirited community. With our closest neighbors WAY downstream, we can play music, drum, and sing around the fire deep into the night ...

At the Kings, air temps range from the upper-80's to the low-100's. Yes, it's hot and dry, and the river's cold and fresh. Whether rafting or resting ... you'll feel refreshed, awake & alive as you dip in and out throughout the day. Easily accessible from either Northern or Southern California, this is a convenient spot to meet up with friends and family you don't see often enough ... Leave home on Friday morning to have plenty of time to set up your campsite during daylight hours, take a swim, then relax before a healthy and delectable dinner.

Ready for whitewater fun and excitement?
Originating high in the mountains of central California near Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park, the Kings boasts the largest watershed of any river in the Sierra Nevada range. Un-dammed and un-spoiled, it truly is one of the most scenic rivers in the West, and provides for an excellent whitewater experience. A big-water, yet non-technical river, the rafting here is suitable for both the first timer and the advanced rafter. Based a few miles down the river, the Zephyr Whitewater Rafting Co. will provide our on-river experience. Take an 8-mile journey down the river with Zephyr ... on Saturday and/or Monday (at additional cost, below).

Prefer to remain on the shore?
Catch up on your reading, sleep, meditate, hike, hang out with friends, or just sit beneath the bodhi tree and watch the flow go by. Spend quality time with community in this extraordinary natural paradise, and you're sure to return home a very happy camper ...

Want to spend more time in this beautiful area of California?
Take a side-trip to Kings Canyon/ Sequoia National Park and commune with the largest trees on earth! The entrance to the park is under 2 hours from our river village, and just a few miles up the road from Dance Camp .......

On that note, you may already know that for quite a few years now, many folks from the nearby NCDC Summer Dance Camp have joined us at the river once dance camp ends (from Sunday thru Tuesday, PART 2 of this trip). If time at camp is in your plans, complete that with a SPLASH at the KINGS!

~* ~* ~* ~* ~* ~* ~* ~*

Bring your talents, poems, stories, instruments, drums, games and flow toys to the River ... PLUS that book you've been meaning to read ... Participate in group activities, or sleep the day away ... The evenings are a time to gather around the fire, or just sit quietly beside the river gazing at the stars.

Connect with nature, self, and each other through these (optional) offerings ~

Joanna Macy's "Work That Reconnects" ~ facilitated by Lynne Michelson
This world, in which we are born and take our being, is alive. It is not our supply house and sewer, it is our larger body. The intelligence that evolved us from stardust and interconnects us with all beings is sufficient for the healing of our Earth community, if we but align with that purpose. We are as intrinsic to our living world as the rivers and trees, woven of the same intricate flows of matter-energy and mind. These are the assumptions that form the basis of the Work that Reconnects.
The central purpose of this work is to help people uncover and experience their innate connections with each other and with the systemic, self-healing powers in the web of life, so that they may be enlivened and motivated to play their part in creating a sustainable civilization. This model takes participants through 4 unfolding experiences: gratitude, sharing authentically, seeing with new eyes and taking one’s calling into the world.  It is on behalf of love for the Earth and each other that Lynne offers this embodied joyful process. For more about this work, visit Joanna Macy's website.

Early in life, Lynne Michelson spent 2 years in Europe, lived in an intentional community and studied with some of the world’s eminent spiritual teachers. She has taught meditation, awakening practices and transformational psychology. Lynne has been a psychotherapist and relationship coach for over 15 years, a workshop facilitator, a national speaker, and created several non-profits that bring community, service, and fun together. Her passion for empowering change agents deepened through her study with Joanna Macy and finds the Work that Reconnects a powerful model for inspiration.

Sacred Flutes, Chanting, and Breathwork ~ with Dana ~DharmaDevi~ DeLong
Known for her warmth and compassion, Dana has been leading groups to sacred places around the planet since 1984, from Bali to India, to Maui. She is an international recording artist whose devotion to ancient chants is uplifting, and her flute playing opens the heart. Dana is the co-founder of Clarity Breathwork, a deep and powerful spiritual practice that clears old patterns and beliefs that no longer serve us. For over 25 years, she has offered this work to groups and through private sessions. As our breath becomes attuned to the rhythms of the river, we will remember that we are already whole. Ecstatic Fireside Poetry ~ with Dreaming Bear Kanaan
Dreaming Bear
is a spiritual terrorist of tenderness who is dropping quark-sized Love-bombs in such quantities that the country is on
red-alert! He is a master word-smith delivering his fervent message with extraordinary verbal dexterity and relevance. He's a nomadic bard, a hip mystic and modern-language Sufic style philosopher-poet all rolled into the best stand-up monologuist to hit the scene as long as we can remember!

He draws his audiences in using language laced with erotically nuanced temptations that morph into personalized challenges to de-evolve the socialized bounds of our ego and re-evolve from the place of infinite possibilities into the person you've always known you could be but never had the courage to really, really let loose. He sets "poetically timed detonations of ego-destroying devices" as he animates the room with his physicality and entrances his participants with pregnant poetic prose made of liquid Love that explodes like dynamism in the hearts of those around him. To learn more, visit www.dreamingbear.net

On this trip, become entranced beneath a star-filled sky by Dreaming Bear's Ecstatic Fireside Poetry. He may also lead daytime nature walks and inspirational talks for those who are not rafting. Private sessions will be available as requested.

"Dreaming Bear is the best conscious poet on the planet, his love spells magically open the heart!" ~ Mark Victor Hansen

"If you'd like to experience a living combination of Spaulding Gray, Rumi, Jack Kerouac, Robin Williams, Shel Silverstien, Michael Talbot and Thich Nhat Han- you owe it to yourself to see Dreaming Bear." ~ Frank Marino, Elevate Films

Mindful Yoga ~ with Priya Rackoff
Each morning, we'll stretch, strengthen and reconnect our spirits back to the Source through Mindful Yoga. A pioneer in the cultivation of somatic presence, embodied spirituality and sustainable living, Priya's guidance is informed by a lifetime immersion in movement arts, psychology and spiritual reflection. Major influences over her 57 years around the sun include Dance improvisation, Contact improvisation, Movement Therapy, Laban Movement Analysis, Yoga, Body/Mind Centering, Release technique and many forms of massage and bodywork as well as the Hakomi Method of Assisted Self Discovery, Reevaluation CoCounseling, Compassionate Communication (aka NVC) Speaking Circles, Osho Meditation and TM and Western Tantra.
Priya will be available for private bodywork and empathy sessions.

Village Drum Circle ~ with Renee Benmeleh
Renee has been having a love affair with music forever. She's been singing since childhood, and drumming for 10 years. She is a trained drum circle facilitator in the spirit of Village Music Circles (www.drumcircle.com). Her heart's desire is to share the joy that music generates with her world community. Drawing from the roots of her multi-cultural musical background, Renee will lead us into the world of facilitated rhythmic play! Come...the heartbeat of the drum is calling, the song of your heart is yearning. Let's create community and dance with spirit, invigorate, and joyfully musicate! Bring your favorite drum -- or use one of Renee’s -- and pick up some new rhythms by the river!
